Keelon Russell is in a quarterback battle with senior quarterback Austin Mack, and the race is neck-and-neck as we enter the final weeks heading into the regular season.

On Sunday, Alabama tight end Marshall Pritchett — a sophomore who is looking to take on an expanded role in 2026 — was asked about the pair of quarterbacks. He had intriguing things to say about both, labeling Mack a “true prototype NFL quarterback” who is straightforward and very dependable in the huddle.

His answer regarding Russell, though, is sure to leave Alabama fans excited:

“The guy’s an incredible athlete. Incredible football thrower. It’s so hard to explain his game if you haven’t kind of seen it fully in person every day like we do,” Pritchett said, via Mike Rodak of Bama247. “He just makes throws and it’s like, you rewind the film, you’re like, there’s no way he just did that. How did he just do that? That’s the only way to explain Keelon. The guy’s dynamite.”

Other Alabama pass-catchers were asked about Russell and Mack on Sunday, including 3rd-year receiver Rico Scott. He mentioned that both Mack and Russell have approached the battle in the right way:

“They’re both humble about it. They have a great approach to the game, so ultimately it’s going to work out for both of them,” Scott said.

Alabama is set to kick off the 2026 season on September 5 against East Carolina.
