The Arizona State Sun Devils are preparing for their Sun Bowl showdown against the Duke Blue Devils on New Year’s Eve, but speculation has continued to swirl regarding the possibility of current head coach Kenny Dillingham leaving for another job.
Dillingham has been a hot name all season long during the coaching carousel after turning around an ASU program that has spent much of the past 20 years in a state of near constant rebuild.
All of this speculation could soon be coming to an end, though, as reports have surfaced that Dillingham and the Sun Devils are nearing a deal that aims at keeping him in Tempe for the foreseeable future. According to Arizona State insider Chris Karpman, the 2 sides are “close” to reaching an agreement that would amend Dillingham’s current contract and increase his annual base salary.
Karpman also reported that these negotiations have been going on for 2 weeks, which indicates that Dillingham has a desire to stick around at Arizona State and continue building upon the success he’s already had with the Sun Devils.
The third-year head coach led the program to their best season in recent memory in 2024, finishing 11-3 with a Big 12 title and their first berth in the College Football Playoff. Once this reported new deal is finalized, Dillingham will be locked in with the Sun Devils for years to come.
