Kentucky declares senior offensive lineman Cole Mosier out for the season

The Kentucky Wildcats football team lost a key player for their 2017 season Monday.
The school announced senior offensive tackle Cole Mosier has been lost for the season due to a torn ACL. The injury occurred during the team’s Saturday scrimmage.
The senior from Walton-Verona high school has been instrumental for the Wildcats up front. He was a part of the group that was named semifinalists for the Joe Moore Award last season — bestowed to the best front five in all of college football.

Last season, he helped create a great ground attack with running backs Boom Williams and Benny Snell. They were the only pair in the SEC to rush for over 1,000 yards over the course of the season.
“We’re extremely disappointed about Cole’s injury,” Coach Mark Stoops said in a statement. “He has been with us all five seasons we’ve been at Kentucky. He helped set the example of hard work that is the theme of this program, as he came in as a walk-on and earned a scholarship. We know Cole will continue to support his teammates this season and we wish him the best in his recovery and in the future.”
Playing over 32 games for the Wildcats, including 13 starts, Mosier has built a strong reputation with his coaches and teammates. Many were sad to see the news that he would not be able to participate on the field this season.

In 2016, Mosier overcame a foot injury that caused him to miss three games. Unfortunately, he won’t get a chance to play in his final year due to previously redshirting as a freshman.
Mosier shared his disappointment in his own statement.
“Tearing my ACL was a big blow and it’s unfortunate because I wanted to finish my career here at UK with my teammates,” Mosier said. “However, I’m going to have surgery on Thursday and I plan to rehab my knee in order to participate in UK’s Pro Day in March. I want to thank Coach Stoops and Coach Schlarman for everything they’ve done for me. I also want to thank the Big Blue Nation for their support. Coming here as a walk-on and then earning a scholarship was a dream come true. I’m going to continue being around the team to cheer them on and help the team as much as I can.”
