Kentucky fans paint ‘Stein Time’ on Tennessee’s The Rock ahead of top-25 showdown
There’s a lot on the line when Kentucky and Tennessee face off on Saturday night. Beyond the College Football Playoff ramifications, though, there’s bragging rights between two fanbases with an intense rivalry. And their disdain for one another carried itself into an early prank from Big Blue Nation.
In the dead of night in Knoxville, Wildcat fans strolled onto the Vols’ campus and, as they’ve done before, painted ‘The Rock.’ They decked the UT landmark out in blue with white lettering. One side of the canvas said “Stein Time,” while the other stated the iconic piece was now the “Blue Blue Rock.”
Tennessee describes ‘The Rock’ as “a place of free expression on campus, a public canvas where thousands of artists have expressed themselves.” Kentucky’s fans’ actions, though, weren’t tolerated by the Volunteer faithful.
They quickly got to work dispatching of the paint, erasing the blue masterpiece in record time. There was also a confrontation at ‘The Rock,’ but it’s unclear when exactly that occurred.
The Wildcats have had very little success against the Volunteers on the gridiron. All-time, Kentucky is just 26-85-9 vs. Tennessee, who once beat the Wildcats 26 straight times (1985-2010).
Outside of the COVID-impacted 2020 campaign, Kentucky hasn’t won in Neyland Stadium since 1984. If Will Stein were to win there tonight, he could get elected Governor of the Bluegrass tomorrow. The Wildcats and Volunteers kick off at 6:15 p.m. ET (ESPN).
