Kentucky will have a huge chance on a primetime stage, at home, to prove once and for all that it is for real.
The Wildcats fell from the AP rankings last week despite winning in overtime at South Carolina, so the disrespect factor is out there as Kentucky gets set to host Lane Kiffin and No. 10 LSU in a 7 p.m. ET kickoff on ESPN.
It’ll be a crazy Saturday night in Lexington, either way, and Kentucky laid out its leaders for the big matchup a few hours before kickoff by naming 4 team captains.
The Wildcats, who are 2-1 in the SEC and will be trying to improve on a 4-1 record in Will Stein‘s first year at Kentucky, have named the following players captains for the matchup against LSU (4-1, 1-1 SEC): senior quarterback Kenny Minchey, senior linebacker Grant Godfrey, senior offensive lineman Lance Heard and senior defensive lineman Mi’Quise Humphrey-Grace.
Minchey will try to back up his captaincy with the same flair that he’s shown on the field for UK this season. He’s already thrown for 1,148 yards with 11 touchdowns and just 1 interception, as Minchey takes aim at that tough LSU defense on Saturday night.
Meanwhile, Godfrey has 2 sacks and 1 interception so far this season, while Humphrey-Grace has 2.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 1 interception in 2026.
Kentucky football’s social media account celebrated the captain selections with this post, as kickoff approached:
With Kentucky’s captains in place for Saturday night, the Wildcats will look for the home upset of LSU to keep the positive vibes rolling in Lexington. Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about who has the edge between the Tigers and Big Blue Nation in primetime:
