Kentucky RB Seth McGowan status updated for Week 9 vs. Tennessee
For the Kentucky Wildcats to have any chance of beating the Tennessee Volunteers this weekend, they’re going to need running back Seth McGowan. Unfortunately, they don’t yet know if he’ll be taking the field.
On Friday morning, On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos reported McGowan is a “game-time decision” for Saturday’s matchup with the Volunteers.
McGowan, Kentucky’s leading rusher, was listed as questionable on the Wildcats’ Thursday night availability report. He left last week’s game versus Texas with a chest injury — an ailment that led UK’s medical staff to take a mid-game hospital — before returning to action just before the end of regulation.

McGowan recorded a team-high 7 receptions and 68 yards against the Longhorns. He’s averaging a team-best 5.1 yards per carry (min. 10 carries) this year.
Kentucky’s offense has spent most of the season stuck in neutral. Redshirt freshman quarterback Cutter Boley has played solid football since stepping into the starting lineup. However, he’s more equipped to game-manage than truly shoulder the offensive load at this point. If McGowan were to miss the game, fellow running backs Dante Dowdell and Jason Patterson would see heavy workloads.
The Volunteers (5-2, 2-2 SEC) and Wildcats (2-4, 0-4 SEC) will kick off at 7:45 p.m. E.T. on Saturday (SEC Network).
