It took some time, but the Kentucky Wildcats eventually pulled away from the South Alabama Jaguars for a 45-21 victory on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats found themselves trailing on multiple occasions in the first half of the game, but rode their rushing attack to victory. In the process, they made school history.
According to UK Sports Network statistician Corey Price, Kentucky’s Week 4 win marked just the second time ever that the Wildcats produced three 100-yard rushers in the same game:
- CJ Baxter – 16 carries, 149 yards, TD (9.3 YPC)
- Jason Patterson – 12 carries, 137 yards, 3 TD (11.4 YPC)
- Jovantae Barnes – 8 carries, 100 yards, TD (12.5 YPC)
In all, Kentucky ran for 390 yards and five scores in its win.
The Wildcats’ first game with three 100-yard rushers came vs. the Ole Miss Rebels on Oct. 3, 2020. That day, quarterback Terry Wilson (22 carries, 129 yards, 3 TD) joined running backs Chris Rodriguez (17 carries, 133 yards, 2 TD) and Asim “AJ” Rose (12 carries, 117 yards, TD) in crossing the century mark on the ground. Unfortunately, Kentucky lost to Ole Miss 42-41 in overtime following a missed PAT.
The Wildcats get back to the SEC grind in Week 5 with a trip to Columbia for a battle with the South Carolina Gamecocks. Kickoff between Kentucky and South Carolina is 4:15 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 3 (SEC Network).
