Kentucky reportedly lands transfer QB commitment for first year under Will Stein
Kentucky has its quarterback for the 2026 season, according to a report.
Per On3’s Pete Nakos, the Wildcats are expected to sign Notre Dame transfer quarterback Kenny Minchey. As the report notes, Minchey committed to Nebraska earlier in the week but now appears to be headed to Lexington to play for Will Stein in 2026.
Minchey is a big pickup for Kentucky. He served as CJ Carr’s backup quarterback this season, but nearly won the starting job in at the end of a tight quarterback competition during fall camp.
Depending on how things go, Minchey could end up as a multi-year starter for the Wildcats. He initially signed with Notre Dame as a 4-star recruit back in the class of 2023. He redshirted in 2023 and has 2 years of eligibility remaining.
Minchey has been efficient as a passer so far in his college career, albeit in a very small sample. He’s 23-of-29 for 212 yards in his career. He’s also rushed for 96 yards on 9 carries and has scored 2 rushing touchdowns.
Kentucky will presumably be looking to make other transfer additions alongside Minchey in the coming days.
