Kentucky could be nearing a hire for its vacant wide receiver coach role. According to FootballScoop, the Wildcats are targeting Houston WR coach Daikiel Shorts Jr. for the same position in Lexington.
Per FootballScoop, Shorts met with the Wildcats coaching staff, including head coach Mark Stoops and offensive coordinator Liam Coen.
Shorts has been at Houston since 2019, starting as the director of player personnel. He was named interim WR coach in 2021 and gained the position permanently in 2022. Before his time at Houston, Shorts was a 4-year contributor at wide receiver for Dana Holgorsen at West Virginia and eventually became a program assistant for the Mountaineers following his playing career. He then joined Holgorsen as part of his initial staff at Houston.
Shorts would replace Scott Woodward, who was fired after 3 seasons in November. The Wildcats had the highest drop percentage in the SEC in the 2023 season, according to the Courier-Journal.
