Kevin Jennings made more history on Saturday as the quarterback at SMU.
This time, the electrifying senior signal-caller did it by throwing a touchdown pass against California. It was a 21-yard scoring strike to Derrick McFall with 7:26 left in the third quarter, and it gave the 23rd-ranked Mustangs a 31-20 lead over the Golden Bears as they started to pull away after trailing 20-17 at halftime.
But the touchdown pass did more than just give SMU some needed breathing room in the ACC showdown in Dallas.
It made Jennings the all-time leader in touchdown passes in an SMU uniform. It was Jennings’ record-setting 73rd career scoring pass as a Mustang, as he continued to entrench himself as one of the best quarterbacks in program history.
