Kevin Sumlin tabs Johnny Manziel’s replacement

Sophomore Kenny Hill has been picked to replace Johnny Manziel as Texas A&M’s starting quarterback coach Kevin Sumlin announced Saturday.

Hill and heralded true freshman Kyle Allen had been battling for the starting job since spring practice, both capable according to coaches of handling the Aggies’ explosive offense.

Sumlin’s final decision came after he was able to evaluate both quarterbacks with offensive coordinator Jake Spavital following Friday’s second fall scrimmage, one that was closed to the public and media.

Previously, Sumlin called the battle “dead even.”

Hill now has just under two weeks to prepare for Texas A&M’s opener. His first college start will come in front of 80,000 strong at South Carolina’s Williams-Brice Stadium on Aug. 28.
