Kirby Smart artfully dodges question about Georgia fans’ second-half attendance vs. Marshall

The Georgia Bulldogs got off to a 1-0 start to the 2025 season on Saturday afternoon, trouncing an overmatched Marshall squad 45-7. It was a good start to the Gunner Stockton era, as the dual-threat quarterback threw for 190 yards and 2 touchdowns while running for 2 additional scores.
The atmosphere at Sanford Stadium, though, maybe wasn’t as intense as atmospheres for Saturday’s big-time matchups between Texas and Ohio State, Alabama and Florida State, LSU and Clemson, and so on.
In the postgame press conference, coach Kirby Smart was asked about the attendance looking a bit “sparse” during the second half of the Georgia victory. At the 12:38 mark of this video, Smart artfully dodges the question.
“Yeah you said it. I didn’t,” Smart said, drawing chuckles from the press room.
We’ll see what happens next week when FCS Austin Peay makes its way to Athens, but it’ll probably be more of the same in the second half of what should be another blowout win.
However, this isn’t to say Georgia fans don’t appreciate their football team. Georgia hosts Alabama on Sept. 27. Ole Miss comes to Sanford Stadium on Oct. 18. And preseason No. 1 Texas makes the trip to Athens on Nov. 15. The atmosphere for all 3 of those marquee matchups should be absolutely electric.
