Kirby Smart has clarified the status of longtime assistant Will Muschamp, revealing on Tuesday morning that Muschamp is still a part of the Georgia staff entering the 2025 season.

On Monday, it was reported that Muschamp was no longer a part of Smart’s staff with the Bulldogs after an updated media guide for the 2025 season circulated without Muschamp’s name. The former head coach has been at Georgia since 2021 in various roles after his stint at South Carolina, most recently serving in an off-field analyst position beginning in 2024.

However, Kirby Smart said at SEC Media Days that Muschamp’s omission from the media guide was a mistake.

“Will is still with us. He’s still going to help us,” said Smart, according to Georgia Bulldogs on SI. “I guess Leland left him off the media guide, y’all gonna have to take that up with him.”

Muschamp previously played at Georgia in the early 1990s and returned to Athens as the special teams coordinator for Smart in 2021. He moved to a co-DC role in 2022 and 2023, but he transitioned into an off-field role at the start of 2024 in order to spend more time with his family.

Muschamp has a 56-51 overall record as a head coach with stops at Florida and South Carolina, and the longtime defensive assistant has a long list of stops across the Southeast.
