Kirby Smart and Georgia are set to open the season against Oregon on Saturday, and at his first Monday press conference of the season, Smart said he was really pleased with how hard our guys have worked and strained.

“I thought we had a really good football camp in terms of physicality, practice, enduring the heat,” Smart said. “It’s not easy to be a football player in the fall because you don’t get to do much but practice every day for 3 or 4 hours, in the heat and school’s not here. People aren’t on campus.”

Smart then shifted his thoughts to Oregon, and said former coach Mario Cristobal is a good friend and recruited a lot of good players to Oregon, and new coach Dan Lanning, who was Georgia’s defensive coordinator last season, picked up the organization and leadership aspects.

“They’re going to be a hell of a team, they’ve got a lot of good football players,” Smart said.

As for Lanning not announcing his quarterback even though Bo Nix, the Auburn transfer, is expected to get the job, Smart was not concerned about that.

“That doesn’t really impact anything for us,” he said. “I know who the quarterback’s going to be. So I’m not worried about that.”
