It’s pretty ruthless on the recruiting trail, especially between SEC programs. Vanderbilt used comedian Nate Bargatze to pitch 5-star Georgia quarterback commit and Nashville native Jared Curtis during College GameDay. Now, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart is reacting with his own message in the aftermath.
During his Monday press conference, Smart explained that Georgia is rolling out any extra bells or whistles for prospects. The Bulldogs bank on their illustrious pedigree and demonstrated ability to prepare players for the pros.
“We recruit the best job we can and sell what we have…” Smart said. “Trust them for what they tell us and not get into gimmicks and propaganda.”
Bargatze tried to leverage local ties to persuade Curis to flip to the Commodores.
“It’s hard for me not to remind Jared Curtis how much I would love for him to come to Vanderbilt,” Bargatze said. “We’re both local kids, and we can become best friends, bud.”
Curtis is regarded by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 4 prospect in the nation and the top quarterback in the Class of 2026. Georgia and Vanderbilt are both having strong seasons. The Bulldogs are 6-1 overall and 4-1 in SEC play, while the Commodores are 7-1 overall and 3-1 in SEC play.
