During Monday night’s game between UNC and TCU, Kirk Herbstreit was caught saying something on the hot mic when coming back from break.
An X post from Barstool Sports posted the clip of Herbstreit being caught on the hot mic with the caption “They’re bad.” Many thought Herbstreit was referencing one of the two teams playing in the game. Considering that at the time of the clip, UNC was down 14-41, many thought Herbstreit was calling UNC bad. However, Herbstreit responded to the post from Barstool Sports, clarifying that he did not say “they’re bad” and instead said “you’re bad,” talking to his spotter, who said something funny when they were coming back on air.
Herbstreit went on to say that it must be a slow night, and he wasn’t sure why the whole situation was so confusing for some.
Herbstreit then later posted to his X account, saying that instead of making up things that he said, we should instead be giving Rece Davis, Holly Rowe, and him their flowers for getting through that game. Herbstreit called those games the toughest for announcers to call.
The game between TCU and UNC was only close for a quarter. By the end of the first half, TCU was leading 20-7. They came out of the half and scored another touchdown and never looked back.
