Kirk Herbstreit was photographed wearing Michigan gear on Saturday while he attended the Wolverines’ annual spring game at the Big House.

Herbstreit was in Ann Arbor to support his son, Chase Herbstreit, who is a freshman quarterback for Michigan. While Herbstreit’s other sons played at Ohio State or Clemson, Chase decided to commit to Michigan this past year.

Herbstreit, of course, played quarterback at Ohio State before beginning what would become an illustrious broadcasting career with ESPN. He was with Ohio State from 1989-92, starting for the Buckeyes in 1992.

The Herbstreit’s roots in Columbus go back even further than that. Jim Herbstreit, Kirk’s father, played for Woody Hayes from 1958-60.

Chase Herbstreit will look to make his own path at Michigan. He was an excellent high school quarterback at St. Xavier in Cincinnati as he threw for 3,983 yards and 32 touchdowns across 33 total games as the starting quarterback. He was a 3-star prospect and the No. 149 quarterback in the country for the 2025 cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
