Urban Meyer left Ohio State after the 2018 season, but quickly joined the FOX Sports team as a co-host of its “Big Noon Saturday” pregame show. However, with Clay Helton under fire at USC, there are rumblings that the Trojans athletic department is looking to make a push for the 3-time national champion if Helton is indeed shown the door in the offseason.
Meyer, though, doesn’t think he’ll be coming back.
“I’m so into this FOX college football team I have, I’m so into other things,” he said during a recent appearance on Seth Greenberg and Dan Dakich’s podcast. “It’s just so intriguing, this other world. I’m also into my grandchildren and wife and family and we’re traveling and doing some cool things. I played Augusta two weeks ago, I didn’t think I’d ever do that in the fall.”
That’s what Meyer says. But what does a notable former Ohio State quarterback think?
“I don’t think he’s coming back. I think people want to put him back in,” ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit said on his podcast. “I haven’t spoken with him in a while, but listening to that I think he’s at peace, it sounds like he’s at a better place. Being a part of a team is very important to him, which he has now with the broadcast work that he’s doing.”
Of course, things may change over the next few months, but for now, at least, the former Florida and Ohio State head man is ruling out a return to the sidelines.
