Kirk Herbstreit predicts SEC winner for 2022

Kirk Herbstreit believes it’s an easy choice to declare Alabama as the favorite to win the SEC.
“All you’ve got to do is look at history,” he said. “When Alabama comes up a little bit short of their goal of getting in and winning a national championship, the team that comes back the next year is incredibly motivated. I know they won the SEC Championship, but they came up a little bit short and did not get it done in Indianapolis against Stetson Bennett. So they’re going to be possessed, they’re going to be on a mission. They’re probably going to have to get through Georgia, but I think they will. I think Bama’s the team to beat in the SEC.”
Alabama is not only the favorite in the SEC, it’s starting the season No. 1 in the AP Top 25 as Bryce Young and Will Anderson Jr. are among the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy.
The Tide’s preseason No. 1 ranking is the seventh in 15 years under coach Nick Saban, and only Oklahoma with 10 has been No. 1 in the initial poll more often than Alabama.
To Herbstreit’s point, Saban recently called 2021 a rebuilding season for his Tide dynasty, which has won 6 national titles over the last 13 years.
