ESPN announced College GameDay’s location for Week 1 of the 2025 season on Tuesday afternoon.
GameDay will be in Columbus for a potential top-5 matchup between Ohio State and Texas to open the first full Saturday of the season. Of course, that show will also serve as the final episode of Lee Corso’s iconic career on the GameDay set.
It’s a full-circle moment for Corso, as Ohio State was the setting for his first-ever headgear pick way back in 1996. He’s often referred to Brutus as his “first love” on the show over the years.
Corso’s longtime partner on the show, Kirk Herbstreit, shared his reaction to the news on social media:
Here’s a clip from Corso’s first headgear pick in Columbus:
Corso, 89, announced plans to step away from the show following one final episode earlier this offseason. Herbstreit was one of the numerous college football voices to offer a tribute to Corso, who has been a staple of college football coverage for the last 3 decades.
Ohio State vs. Texas will feature perhaps the nation’s two top teams entering the year. The Buckeyes are the defending national champs while Texas is the favorite to win it all according to most betting apps.
The Buckeyes and Longhorns will kick off at 12 p.m. ET on Aug. 30. The game will be broadcast on FOX.
