We’re now 5 weeks through the college football season and the elite squads are starting to take shape. During his podcast Nonstop, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit revealed his top 5 teams going into Week 6.
Herbstreit has his alma mater Ohio State at No. 1, followed by Oregon, Ole Miss, Miami, and Texas A&M.

Herbstreit was impressed with the way Ohio State performed in its 24-6 victory at Washington, an environment that he believes often gets slept on. Ohio State’s defense limited Washington to 3 points in the second half.
“I have more respect than the average fan for a trip to Seattle. I knew that was a tricky game for them,” Herbstreit said. “Right now I feel like with Julian Sayin, they’re leaning on their defense and let’s play high-percentage pass game. Let’s not lose it with a young quarterback who’s gaining confidence each week. I wondered if that style would be enough on the road and clearly it was.”
Meanwhile, Oregon earned an impressive 30-24 road victory at Penn State, Ole Miss upset visiting LSU, and Texas A&M edged Auburn. Miami had a bye week as it gears up for an in-state rivalry matchup at Florida State on Saturday night.
