Kirk Herbstreit shares booth video of reaction to Ole Miss’ wild onside kick against Texas
Kirk Herbstreit got a taste of college football’s biggest environments in Week 8. He began his Saturday in Salt Lake City with College GameDay, then finished in Austin for Ole Miss-Texas.
Herbstreit shared footage of his and Chris Fowler’s reaction to the Rebels’ late onside kick recovery against the Longhorns on Sunday morning. In the video, Herbstreit smiles and signals for Ole Miss possession as the recovery is made. Knowing how that reaction could come off, he explained himself in the caption of his post.
“I’m not rooting for Ole Miss — I’m rooting for a moment — which we got,” Herbstreit wrote. “Who doesn’t love seeing a great game come right down to the wire?! Moments like these are what make college football so SPECIAL.”
Early on, it didn’t look like Ole Miss would be anywhere near position to onside kick for a chance to tie or beat Texas. The embattled Longhorns pounced on the Rebels in the first half on Saturday, outscoring them 24-3 through two quarters. Trinidad Chambliss led Ole Miss back to a 24-24 score in the fourth quarter, but Arch Manning’s 1-yard touchdown plunge gave Texas a 31-24 edge that it didn’t relinquish.
Herbstreit will be in Bloomington ahead of Minnesota-Indiana for College GameDay in Week 9.
