Kirk Herbstreit shares thoughts on ‘sickening’ Brendan Sorsby saga
Kirk Herbstreit appeared on The Dan Patrick Show earlier this week and didn’t hold back on his passionate feelings regarding the Brendan Sorsby saga that unfortunately has gripped college football in recent days and weeks.
On Monday, the Sorsby ordeal came to a head when a Texas judge granted the Texas Tech quarterback a temporary injunction against the NCAA that would allow Sorsby to be eligibile for the 2026 season. The prize transfer signal-caller had been declared ineligible for being found to have wagered on college sports.
But Sorsby didn’t take the initial ruling lying down, and after Texas judge Ken Curry gave the Sorsby camp the ruling it wanted, Herbstreit couldn’t hold back in his feelings, with the longtime ESPN college football analyst proclaiming shock and dismay like many others.
“It’s sickening that if you don’t hear what you like, you can just go to your local judge and find the answer that you want,” Herbstreit told Patrick. “I just don’t know where this ends.”
Herbstreit intimated during his appearance on the show that local judges like Curry are easily swayed in making rulings that favor their local athletes because they’re fans themselves of those programs.
Curry’s ruling and subsequent preliminary injunction prevents the NCAA from punishing Sorsby for violating its rules regarding sports gambling.
Now, the Cincinnati transfer is poised to play for the Red Raiders this fall after all despite those sports gambling violations.
