After watching Week 1, Kirk Herbstreit thinks LSU will play for a national championship.
Herbstreit and Rece Davis were on the ESPN call for Monday night’s North Carolina-TCU game. With the game being a blowout for the Horned Frogs, Herbstreit and Davis talked about some other things to keep themselves entertained. Toward the end of the broadcast, Herbstreit shared his latest picks to make the College Football Playoff National Championship.
“I think I’ll go with Penn State and LSU in the championship,” Herbstreit said. “LSU, I mean, you gotta stay healthy, but they’ve got a salty defense this year.”

LSU’s defensive performance in the Tigers’ 17-10 Week 1 win at Clemson has the college football world buzzing. On offense, Brian Kelly‘s team is led by returning starting QB Garrett Nussmeier. Nussmeier is the first quarterback in program history to throw for over 4,000 yards and return the following season.
The Bayou Bengals started the season ranked No. 9 in the AP Top 25 and are sure to move up in the new poll set to come out with Week 1 complete. LSU has Louisiana Tech up next before hosting No. 15 Florida to begin SEC play in Week 3.
