Kirk Herbstreit spotlights Heisman finalists: ‘I think they’re all outstanding’

Kirk Herbstreit on Saturday discussed how the 2023 Heisman finalists have distanced themselves from the competition.
“Every year you have a September and an October, and you think you have an idea of what’s going to happen, and then you get to November and [the] 1st week of December, and you start to see players separate themselves,” he said on “SportsCenter”.
Herbstreit spotlighted Oregon’s Bo Nix and Washington’s Michael Penix Jr., who both had “a great journey” to get to where they currently are. Nix had shaky years at Auburn but has exploded as Oregon’s QB1; Penix dealt with injury at Indiana and has blossomed in Kalen DeBoer’s offense.
As for LSU’s Jayden Daniels, he stands out for a couple of reasons, Herbstreit noted.
“I would say of all the candidates [he] had the most Heisman moments, [but] his team lost 3 games. How will the voters look at that?” he said.
For Marvin Harrison Jr., Herbstreit is convinced that the Ohio State wide receiver is set to follow in the footsteps of his famous father, a Pro Football Hall of Famer, mentioning his “play-making ability” and “humility”.
“He’s a tremendous player and a difference maker, not just in college, but at the next level,” he said.
All told, Herbstreit feels there’s a case for all 4 players.
“I think they’re all outstanding,” he added. “I don’t know what the betting odds are lately, but I’m excited to see the show.”
