ESPN’s “College GameDay” had a prolonged roundtable discussion about the changing nature of college football with things like name, image and likeness and the alliance between the ACC, Big Ten and Pac-12.

Kirk Herbstreit weigh in with his concern about the alliance

“There’s so much going on at once,” Herbstreit said. “I think that’s the reason there’s kind of like a step back for college football fans and administrators. I think there’s a few things. Number one, I’m concerned about Greg Sankey now on an island with Texas and Oklahoma and what that has done to the other leaders. I’m concerned now with this alliance. At some point, you have to bring everybody together, everybody’s got to put their personal feelings aside, and if college football is going to grow and deal with all these issues, everybody’s got to get in the same room.”

Herbstreit has long promoted a need for “one voice” as a college football commissioner, or someone to represent all of the Power 5. He reiterated that again on Saturday morning.

Herbstreit also discussed the new generation of fan and player where games don’t matter, and players elect to prepare for their NFL careers.

“Your team’s trying to get to the Playoff, and as soon as they’re out of the Playoff, games don’t matter,” Herbstreit said. “Our generation, we don’t understand that.”
