Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels got a tougher than expected win against Kentucky, as the Rebels were able to hang on for the 30-23 win.
The Rebels were up 30-20 late in the game, but the Wildcats were able to knock in a field goal to cut the deficit to 7. Before the start of the game, Ole Miss was an 8.5-point favorite, and Lane Kiffin wanted to apologize to Ole Miss bettors because of the bad beat.
“Sorry to a lot of gamblers there at the end,” Kiffin told reporters after the game.
Things started off very slow for the Rebels on Saturday, as quarterback Austin Simmons threw 2 interceptions to help the Wildcats get off to a 10-0 lead.
While they weren’t able to do a lot passing the ball, the Rebels took control of the game behind a strong running performance by Kewan Lacy. He finished with 28 carries for 138 yards and 1 touchdown.
It wasn’t the prettiest performance by the Rebels, but getting the win was a big one for them. Last season, the Wildcats went into Oxford and were able to pull off the upset, 20-17.
Kiffin and the team will be back in action in Week 3 against the Arkansas. The Rebels figure to be the betting favorite in that game, and you can be sure that the coach will once again know how much his team is favored by.
