The LSU Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide playing a low-scoring game in Death Valley? What is this, the 2010s?
Lane Kiffin and company entered halftime of Saturday’s rivalry game facing a 10-3 deficit. QB Sam Leavitt threw an interception in Alabama territory just before the intermission that potentially took points off the board for the Tigers.
LSU’s defense stepped up to make sure the Tide didn’t score before the end of the quarter, but Kiffin took issue with the LSU offense during his halftime comments:
“We’ve gotta do a better job against blitz zero down there,” Kiffin said. “Obviously Sam made a poor decision there when we’re in field goal range. Our defense settled down a little bit. We’ve gotta finish drives a lot better on offense. We’re moving it, but we’re stalling.”
Leavitt has been playing better as of late, but he’s struggling a bit against Alabama. He’s 15-for-21 for 168 yards and 1 interception at the half. Not bad numbers, but as Kiffin mentioned, the Tigers aren’t finishing drives on offense.
Alabama also hasn’t been able to capitalize much on LSU’s offensive inefficiency. QB Keelon Russell is 9-of-12 for 89 yards at the break. We’ll see which offense can break through first.
