Lane Kiffin disputes claim that he called Cleveland Browns about Dae’Quan Wright

Lane Kiffin was in the headlines this week after Cleveland Browns coach Todd Monken said Kiffin had called him last week. Even though Monken didn’t answer, he said it made sense after Browns rookie tight end Dae’Quan Wright entered the transfer portal despite being on the Browns roster.
On Monday, Kiffin disputed the claim and said he doesn’t even know the Browns coach.
“I don’t know Todd,” Lane Kiffin told reporters on Monday. “Maybe someone left him a call or text and told him they were me.”
Wright has since been waived by the Browns. The expectation is that he will head to LSU if he clears NFL waivers after he and several other players were granted a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the NCAA in an eligibility case in Louisiana.
If he does indeed play for LSU, it would be a reunion with Kiffin for Wright who played his last two seasons at Ole Miss. Last season, he put together a very good year, as he finished with 39 catches for 635 yards and five touchdowns while helping the Rebels make it to the College Football Playoff.
Wright isn’t the only player who is trying to do this, as many players are currently on NFL rosters, but are keeping their options open to return to college. NFL teams have to have their roster down to 53 players by Aug. 30, which is the day after Week 0.
