Lane Kiffin explains decision not to roster Dae’Quan Wright, Zxavian Harris for Clemson game

The LSU Tigers have become the center of the college football world this offseason for all the wrong reasons. For the longest time, it seemed the university did not fear any potential repercussions for its actions. However, Lane Kiffin‘s decision not to roster Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris for tonight’s matchup with Clemson indicates otherwise.
Kiffin, appearing on College GameDay ahead of the all-Tiger affair, spoke about his choice. He told the GameDay crew it “wasn’t easy” to keep Wright and Harris from suiting up, but stated that “uncertainties” regarding “what potentially could come” LSU’s way by adding them influenced the move.

“As much as I feel for the players… I believe these kids have an opportunity to play, just like all the other kids around the country that are winning court cases,” Kiffin said. “But, at the same time, I’m the head coach of LSU. And I had to make a decision that is for the big picture of LSU and the LSU football program.”
Earlier this week, Kiffin said he wanted “clarity” from the SEC about his players. The SEC presumably gave him that clarity when it officially banned professional athletes in late August, but subsequent Louisiana court rulings have, for the moment, cracked the door open for Wright and Harris.
