It’s no secret that Lane Kiffin was connected to the open Florida job at the end of last season.

The former Ole Miss head coach, however, decided to go with LSU and now looks to get the Tigers back to the College Football Playoff for the first time since LSU won the national title in 2019.

While speaking at the SEC spring meetings Tuesday, Kiffin was asked what went into the decision to pick the Tigers over programs showing interest such as Florida. Kiffin insisted that the decision had little to do with Florida and more to do with LSU — he believed in what he and his staff could build at LSU and made the decision to follow through.

“A lot goes into these decisions,” Kiffin said. “They got a great program — it really was not about that. It was really about LSU and the belief I had in what we could do at LSU… It really wasn’t about any other program. It was specifically about LSU.”

Later, Kiffin mentioned his departure from Ole Miss, mentioning that he can be appreciative of the 6 years he spent in Oxford while also being open to a “new challenge” at LSU with the Tigers.

College football fans eagerly anticipate the start of the Lane Kiffin era at LSU, which starts on September 5 against Clemson at Tiger Stadium.
