Lane Kiffin gives update on Sam Leavitt’s injury status after Week 5

Lane Kiffin and LSU were able to get a dominant 63-14 win against McNeese on Saturday night, moving to 4-1 on the year.
Quarterback Sam Leavitt was efficient in his time, finishing 18-of-23 for 176 yards and three touchdowns. One stat that stood out was the fact that Leavitt didn’t register a carry. Early in the year, he has been aggressive running the ball, and that has caused him to deal with some injuries.
After the game, Kiffin talked to reporters about Leavitt’s health, saying that LSU has limited him in practice throughout the week.
“I thought Sam did good,” Kiffin said in his postgame press conference. “He really didn’t do very much during the week at all. Didn’t practice Tuesday, and told him if he’s gonna play, he needs to practice at least seven-on-seven Wednesday. So, he did and so he’s obviously a lot better than he was a week ago, but was still limited in what we call.”

In the game against McNeese, Leavitt didn’t need to run the ball, as the Tigers ran the ball 53 times for 367 yards and six touchdowns. The Tigers had two running backs in Harlem Berry and Stacy Gage, who each rushed for over 100 yards.
In Week 6, the Tigers have a much more difficult matchup as they travel to take on a Kentucky team that is playing some of its best football in years.
Kickoff in this game is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, and the game will be on ESPN.
