Lane Kiffin jokes about using Ring camera to spy on Pete Golding during recruiting battle

Lane Kiffin is known to bring comedy to any scene, even on the sidelines during the heat of an SEC game.
So, if the Ole Miss head coach turned LSU head coach is willing to joke during games, he’s not going to bat an eye on joking around during SEC Media Days, which is exactly what he did on Thursday in Tampa. This time, the target of Kiffin’s comedic act was none other than Pete Golding, the current Rebels head coach who replaced Kiffin when he bolted to LSU at the end of last season.
Golding used to be Kiffin’s defensive coordinator in Oxford, so these 2 were pretty close. Now, they’re fierce SEC rivals, but Kiffin didn’t let that little old thing get in the way on Thursday. It actually started on Wednesday during Golding’s session with reporters at Media Days. Golding told ESPN that he lives in a house he purchased from Kiffin.
“(Lane) helped me on this one a little bit … because he had another offer that he actually worked out to where I could get it, and the other person couldn’t,” Golding explained.
Naturally, the subject came up 1 day later on Thursday when Kiffin and LSU took their turn with reporters at Media Days. Kiffin turned into a quasi-comedian (again), joking that he checked in on Golding using his Ring camera. Kiffin added that when his staff at LSU believed that Golding was visiting with a recruit, Kiffin would say: “He can’t be wherever it was at this recruit’s house, he’s on my couch. I just saw him walk in.”
But the comedy act wasn’t over, with Lane Kiffin adding: “I told him afterwards, you might want to change the Ring camera.”
Soon enough, the action will move to the actual football field and things will get serious. But even then, Kiffin could inject some humor into the situation. For now, it was Media Days, and Kiffin was using the scene to be who he is — a sometimes comedian who also happens to be a head coach in the SEC.
Kiffin and Golding used to be on the same side of things, but now they’re fierce rivals in the SEC going for the same prize.
