Lane Kiffin says Week 3 loss in Oxford was Rebels’ ‘Super Bowl’

In the biggest game of the Week 3 slate in college football, LSU and Lane Kiffin made the trek to Oxford, Mississippi, to take on Kiffin’s former program, the Ole Miss Rebels, under the lights in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
That much-anticipated homecoming didn’t go the way either Lane or the Bayou Bengals had hoped, as the Rebels handed them a 32-24 upset loss to the delight of every Rebels fan in attendance.
Lane Kiffin wasn’t going to let the simple fact that he lost get in the way of his typical antics, though, as On3 reported Wednesday afternoon that the LSU head coach said Ole Miss only won because it was their “Super Bowl.”
“If it wasn’t for the name, Ole Miss, and if it was more of a traditional name that we were playing, we hadn’t coached at before, how would everybody be feeling if, in your third game of your first year of a program, you went to Ohio State and came all the way back?”
It really doesn’t get more Lane Kiffin than saying you only lost to your former program because the opponent viewed the gameas its Super Bowl, and there is no question this quip was meant solely to get a rise out of the Rebels’ fanbase.
Super Bowl or not, though, Ole Miss took care of business and got some much-needed revenge on the man many of them view as the biggest traitor in the school’s history, and that’s what really counts at the end of the day.
