Lane Kiffin shares encouraging update on Trey’Dez Green’s progress in return from injury
The LSU Tigers have been without tight end Trey’Dez Green since their Week 3 loss to the Ole Miss Rebels. Green, one of the projected top tight ends for the 2027 NFL Draft, hurt his knee after making four receptions for 60 yards in Oxford. He isn’t expected to suit up this weekend in Lexington, but his return could be coming soon.
According to head coach Lane Kiffin, Green is no longer in a knee brace. Despite this, there’s no firm timeline for him to get back on the field.
“If thereโs anybody thatโs going to come back sooner than maybe what people thought, it would be him,” Kiffin said. “He’s out of the brace and moving it… getting closer.”

Green emerged as a major red zone weapon as a sophomore in 2025, making 33 receptions for 433 yards and seven touchdowns. His return would help open up LSU’s passing offense and give Sam Leavitt both a safety valve and big-play threat.
The Tigers, fresh off a 63-6 thrashing of McNeese State, face the Kentucky Wildcats in Week 6. Will Stein’s team fell out of the AP poll even though it beat the South Carolina Gamecocks in Week 5; it will be eager to prove that shouldn’t have happened when Kiffin and Co. come to town. Kickoff between LSU and Kentucky is 7 p.m. ET on Saturday (ESPN).
