Lane Kiffin takes jab at Diego Pavia, jokes Jaxson Dart could ‘file a waiver’ for 2025
Lane Kiffin took a jab at Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia during an interview with ESPN’s Taylor McGregor on Thursday night.
McGregor asked Kiffin about his quarterback Jaxson Dart playing his final game at the collegiate level. Dart, Ole Miss’s all-time leading passer, is out of collegiate eligibility after the 2024 season.
Kiffin responded with a joke at Pavia’s expense — referencing a waiver he recently received that allowed him an additional year of eligibility.
“It’s awesome, he’s playing great,” Kiffin said of Dart. “You never know, maybe he’ll file a waiver and come back another year.”
Here’s a clip from the interview:
Pavia was granted an additional year of eligibility via the NCAA waiver last month. The waiver came after Pavia filed a lawsuit that argued the NCAA was violating anti-trust law by counting JUCO eligibility toward a student athlete’s Division 1 eligibility.
Pavia is expected to return to Vanderbilt in 2025, although he could enter the transfer portal and choose to play elsewhere. If he stays with the Commodores, Diego Pavia is unlikely to see Lane Kiffin and the Rebels next season — Vandy and Ole Miss aren’t scheduled to play during the 2025 regular season.
Ole Miss went 9-3 during the regular season and was left out of the College Football Playoff. With a win over Duke on Thursday night in the Gator Bowl, the Rebels would clinch their third 10+ win season in the last 4 years.
