LaNorris Sellers injury: South Carolina QB’s status upgraded on latest availability report
As South Carolina gears up for a crucial Week 4 matchup, it will hit the road to face undefeated and 23rd-ranked Mizzou. With the Gamecocks still hoping to make a run at the College Football Playoff, the stakes couldn’t be higher in the SEC showdown.
South Carolina is looking to bounce back from a disappointing loss to Vanderbilt, but the spotlight has been squarely on the QB position. Backup quarterback Luke Doty was thrust into action against the Commodores after LaNorris Sellers was knocked out of the game with an injury.
Sellers’ status has been up in the air since. South Carolina initially listed him as questionable on Wednesday’s availability report. On Thursday’s update, Sellers was upgraded to probable.
That was in line with reporting on Thursday that Sellers returned to practice.
While uncertainty still looms over whether the talented dual quarterback will take the field, his return could significantly alter the dynamics of Saturday’s game.
If Sellers does indeed play, it could provide the much-needed spark for South Carolina’s offense, which has been held in check early this year. The Gamecocks rank 96th in scoring, averaging just 23 points a game.
Doty completed 18 of his 27 passes for just 148 yards with one interception and no touchdowns last week. His rushing game was equally underwhelming, as he managed only nine carries for a mere 20 yards.
South Carolina (2-1, 0-1 SEC) faces off against Mizzou (3-0) on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
