It’s been a week since the discussions about an alliance among the ACC, Big Ten and Pac-12 were first reported by The Athletic.

Now the details are beginning to come into focus, according to a report from David M. Hale of ESPN.

Football and men’s and women’s basketball have been the latest focus of the discussions, though the scope remains uncertain and initial conversations centered on all sports.

TV opportunities are among the outstanding issues to resolve, as the ACC plays 8 league games in football, while the Big Ten and Pac-12 play 9 each.

Several ACC schools have annual rivalries against SEC schools, too. As one ACC athletic director said, “no one is tearing up future scheduling contracts yet.”

The bottom line is they’re still trying to find philosophical common ground on a new path.

“Is that about philosophy, governance, scheduling?” one athletic director asked. “It could be all of those things.”
