Lincoln Riley explains why Desman Stephens was on USC sideline after ejection for hit on Dante Moore

Lincoln Riley answered many questions on Saturday night after USC lost to Oregon, 41-27. While the result was bad, the biggest talking point was Desman Stephens’ hit on Oregon star quarterback Dante Moore, which knocked him out of the game and sent him to the hospital. Stephens was ejected on the play, but he stayed on the sideline for the remainder of the game.
After the game, Riley was asked why Stephens stayed on the sideline throughout the rest of the game.
“Why,” Riley said. “Because he’s on our football team.”
As bad as the hit was, how Stephens handled the aftermath is what had many people across the country so mad. As Moore was lying on the field, Stephens was dancing around, celebrating with teammates and even taunting. There were several penalties called on the play, as numerous Oregon players sprinted over to defend their quarterback. After the game, the 2 teams even had a run-in on the way to the locker room.
For the Trojans, Saturday night was supposed to be the night when the team finally got over the hump. Instead, the Trojans once again lost to the Ducks, and the question is whether or not Riley is the right guy for the job at USC.
