Lincoln Riley offers explanation for infamous Easter brisket photo

Five years later, Lincoln Riley has an explanation for the brisket photo that united the college football Twitter community in disapproval.
On April 4, 2021, Easter Sunday, Riley posted a photo of a big serving of brisket. Everyone had the same reaction to what appeared to be “dry” brisket, leading BBQ enthusiasts everywhere to mock the then-Oklahoma coach’s cooking.

“It’s actually one of my favorite stories,” Riley told Barstool Sports. ” So I’m not a great cook, but I’m a decent cook. And I know I’ll probably get roasted for saying this right here. And that’s fine, I don’t give a shit.
“… So my buddy had been telling me about doing this brisket. And my buddy is a phenomenal cook, like phenomenal.”
Riley says that following his friend’s recommendation altered the appearance.
“He’d been talking to me about doing this brisket and doing it in a Worcestershire bath,” Riley continued. “I love Worcestershire (sauce) on anything. All right. So I do this. This brisket’s phenomenal, but it rips all the pink out of it because it soaks in this bath.
“So when I take the picture, I’m not thinking anything of it because the brisket was really, really good.”
Blame the Worcestershire sauce – if you believe Riley. Some SEC fans, though, may not be buying Riley’s story. Credit to the former Oklahoma coach for keeping the post up after being roasted on Twitter (back in the good old days before it became X).
