LOOK: Even home-state Wake Forest doesn’t draw many fans for Belk Bowl

The Belk Bowl is in Charlotte, so the fact that an in-state squad like Wake Forest was selected to play in the game should help attendance, right?
Well, apparently not, as the stands were pretty much empty 10 minutes before kickoff for the matchup between Texas A&M and the Demon Deacons.
As you can see in the photo below, there weren’t many fans in the stands in the buildup to the game on Friday afternoon:

Based on the television broadcast, it appears the lower bowl has filled in a bit since kickoff, but the upper deck is still pretty empty.
Of course, drawing fans to a Friday afternoon game is never easy, but one would think more Wake Forest fans would be in attendance.
Early in the first quarter, though, the Wake fans that did make the trip were probably regretting it, as the Demon Deacons fell into a quick 14-0 hole early in the first quarter before scoring on their third possession to cut the Aggies’ lead to 14-7.
