Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry slams Scott Woodward, says LSU AD will not hire next HC
Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry went after LSU athletic director Scott Woodward during a boisterous press conference on Wednesday, saying he won’t let Woodward pick the replacement for Brian Kelly.
Kelly’s firing on Sunday night has created a whirlwind at LSU as it enters a bye week at 5-3 and 2-3 in the SEC, and on Wednesday it was the governor of the state’s turn to speak out on the matter. Landry vehemently stated that Woodward wouldn’t be the one to pick the Tigers’ next head coach, that Woodward has created a “$53 million liability” for the school, referring to the cost of Kelly’s buyout.
Instead of Woodward hiring the next coach, it will instead be LSU’s Board of Supervisors.
“No,” shouted Landry point blank when asked if Woodward would be hiring the Tigers’ next coach. “I can tell you right now, Scott Woodward will not be selecting the next coach. Hell, I’d let (President) Donald Trump select it before I’d let (Woodward) do it.”
Landry said he has full confidence in the school’s Board of Supervisors to pick the right guy without Woodward.
“The (LSU) Board of Supervisors is going to come up with a committee, and they’re going to find us a coach,” Landry said.
