LSU cancels scheduled home-and-home series with Big 12 team, per reports

LSU is getting its engines warmed up for the start of the Lane Kiffin era in 2026, but on Monday afternoon the Tigers announced a huge tweak to their future schedules.
According to a report by On3, LSU has cancelled a 2-game, home-and-home series against Big 12 powerhouse Arizona State that was scheduled to take place in 2029 and 2030.
This reported change is another instance of an SEC program dropping a non-conference Power 4 opponent in light of this season’s switch to a 9-game conference schedule. Several SEC programs have already announced similar changes, and LSU was just the latest school to do it.
FBSchedules.com also reported the cancellation of the 2 games on Monday afternoon, writing in a social media post: “Per a copy of the cancellation agreement obtained from LsU on its letterhead, the schools mutually agreed to cancel the series and neither team will pay a fee.”
The Tigers and Sun Devils were scheduled to play in Death Valley at LSU in 2029, followed by a matchup at Arizona State in 2030.
But the back-and-forth between LSU and ASU goes back a few decades, as the programs were originally scheduled to play in Baton Rouge during the 2005 season. But because of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the game at Tiger Stadium was moved to Arizona State.
Then the Tigers and Sun Devils were scheduled to play in 2015 and 2016, but LSU had to move the 2016 matchup so it could open the 2016 season against Wisconsin at Lambeau Field.
So, Monday’s reported cancellation is just the latest tweak to a game or games involving these 2 programs.
While LSU won’t be playing Arizona State down the road in those 2 previously scheduled meetings, there is an SEC title for the Tigers to go after this fall as a new regime takes over.
