LSU took a break from SEC play in Week 5 and finished up its nonconference play by hosting McNeese. It was a tune-up for Lane Kiffin‘s squad, as the No. 11 Tigers cruised to a 63-14 win, improving to 4-1 on the season.

For this type of game at this time of year, it checked just about every box for LSU. The offense posted 730 yards, the second-highest single-game performance in school history. The defense did its job. And there’s no news on the injury front.

Sam Leavitt led the way with 3 touchdowns. LSU’s QB1 was 18-of-23 passing for 176 yards. He did have 1 interception.

As a team, the Tigers ran the ball 53 times for 367 yards. Harlem Berry led the ground attack with 15 carries for 125 yards and a touchdown. Stacy Gage had just 6 rushes, but logged 110 yards and 2 scores on the ground in a multi-highlight night. Gage took a direct snap 46 yards for 1 score and also had a 39-yard TD run.

The LSU defense held McNeese to just 196 yards. McNeese was just 1-of-12 on 3rd down. The Tigers had 7 TFLs and 3 sacks.

Up next, LSU goes on the road to face Kentucky. The Wildcats are coming off a thrilling comeback win at South Carolina. UK trailed 17-0 in the game, but walked off the Gamecocks in overtime with a successful 2-point conversion to win 35-34.
