LSU’s 2027 recruiting class just got better.
The Tigers picked up a commitment from 5-star edge Chris Whitehead on Wednesday afternoon. He became LSU’s second commitment of the day, joining 4-star running back Trey Martin.
Whitehead chose LSU over finalists Ohio State, Virginia Tech and South Carolina, per Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett:
Whitehead becomes one of the top prospects in LSU’s 2027 recruiting class. He’s the No. 31 overall player and the No. 4 edge in the nation for this cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Whitehead attends Lloyd C. Bird High School in Chesterfield, Virginia. He’s listed at 6-foot-4, 230 pounds.
LSU now has a pair of Composite 5-star commitments in its 2027 class. Whitehead joins 5-star tight end Ahmad Hudson in that regard.
Overall, LSU has 13 commitments in the class of 2027. The group now ranks No. 19 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings. Lane Kiffin and his staff are expected to continue to heavily recruit the 2027 high school class before turning their attention to the portal after the regular season.
The Early Signing Period for the class of 2027 begins in December.
