LSU fans boo image of Jayden Daniels shown on Tiger Stadium video board
Someone making a mountain out of a molehill doesn’t usually end well. For Jayden Daniels, that rings especially true after the LSU Tigers‘ first home game.
When LSU showed its NFL alums during its blowout victory over Clemson on Saturday night, its fanbase booed Daniels. An image of 2023 Heisman Trophy winner appeared alongside linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson on the video board.
Back in early August, Daniels sent LSU a cease-and-desist letter, telling the Tigers they were no longer welcome to use his Name, Image and Likeness. The decision stemmed from cornerback DJ Pickett wearing the No. 5 jersey that Daniels wore in 2022 and 2023.
The Washington Commanders’ signal-caller has been relentlessly mocked pretty much from the moment news of his letter hit the public eye. Numerous accounts, from individuals and organizations, joked about not utilizing the number five in honor of Daniels in the hours and days that followed.
Pickett, a sophomore, was named a freshman All-American in 2025. He posted a team-high three interceptions, 37 tackles and two sacks last season. He tallied two tackles in the Tigers’ 51-10 blowout win against Clemson to kick off the 2026 campaign. LSU faces Louisiana Tech on Saturday, Sept. 12 (7:30 p.m. ET, SEC Network+) in Week 2.
