LSU has added another player to its 2027 recruiting class. To do it, Lane Kiffin and his staff had to flip a wide receiver already committed to a Big 12 school.
Gary Burney Jr., from Bossier City, La., pledged to Houston on May 30 after an official visit and before OVs to Tulane and Cincinnati. One final visit to LSU ended with him changing his commitment from the Cougars to the Tigers, he announced on Sunday afternoon.
Burney, who currently has 15 offers, had a strong junior campaign at Parkway High School, making 76 catches for 1,367 yards and 15 touchdowns. He is the second wide receiver to join Kiffin’s 2027 class, joining Florida’s Ah’Mari Stevens and Pennsylvania’s Cade Cooper.
June has been a busy month for the Tigers. Nine players have committed to the program, headlined by edge rusher KJ Green, the nation’s No. 6 player. Kiffin and his staff, though, are working hard on flipping other players. Jakari Lipsey, the No. 4 offensive tackle in the country, is pledged to Michigan but is one of several players taking official visits over Father’s Day weekend.
LSU is also working on in-state safety Jayden Anding and Atlanta-area offensive tackle Miller Westfield, among others.
