LSU lost a big piece of its 2024 recruiting class on Monday evening.

4-star cornerback Cai Bates has decommitted from the Tigers, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Bates originally committed to LSU back in July.

Bates is a big loss for LSU. He’s the No. 98 overall player and the No. 9 cornerback in the country for the class of 2024, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 15 player from the state of Florida. He attends Edgewater High School in Orlando, Fla.

It’s unclear where Bates will turn toward in his recruitment, but he did make an unofficial visit to Florida State this past weekend. Bates was in Tallahassee along with several other high-profile recruits to see FSU’s 27-20 win over Miami on Saturday.

LSU still has a loaded recruiting class in the 2024 cycle. The Tigers’ class has 25 commitments, including five from defensive backs. The group ranks No. 14 nationally, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.
