LSU announced its 2 team captains for the 2025 season, and Tiger fans will be anything but stunned to learn that senior quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and junior linebacker Whit Weeks are the leaders of the team.

The veterans are the de facto vocal leaders on each side of the ball, and they each return to Baton Rouge with one goal in mind: pursuing a national title.

Nussmeier, who was also announced as the first Tiger QB to wear No. 18 since Matt Mauck in 2003, bided his time behind Heisman Trophy-winner Jayden Daniels before bursting onto the scene with a productive 2024 campaign in which he threw for 4,052 yards and 29 touchdowns. After flirting with the NFL, Nussmeier decided to return for one last ride as the QB of his home-state team.

Meanwhile, Weeks experienced a similar breakout season last fall, as he led LSU with a whopping 125 total tackles, tacked on 10 tackles for loss and recorded 3.5 sacks. The Georgia native also ranked tops in the SEC when it came to solo tackles (64).

Nussmeier and Weeks will open their 2025 campaign on the road against Clemson, with everything from halting the team’s losing streak in season-openers to ‘Death Valley’ bragging rights being on the line.
