LSU will have a coaching tandem at offensive coordinator during the ReliaQuest Bowl with quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan and receivers coach Cortez Hankton at the helm.
The move comes after a report surfaced on Friday that offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock will return to Notre Dame in a similar role. Denbrock coached on Brian Kelly’s staff in South Bend in various roles from 2010-2016.
Kelly officially gave his support for the move to have co-offensive coordinators for the bowl game in a team press release. The LSU coach isn’t worried about how it will affect the team for the game.
“I’m confident in Cortez and Joe’s ability to run the offense,” Kelly said. “They will collaborate in the passing game and work with Brad (Davis) and Frank (Wilson) in the running game. They will execute a great game plan for us. They are a cohesive group of coaches and I’m excited about this opportunity for them. I know they will do a great job.”
The Tigers face Wisconsin in the ReliaQuest Bowl on New Year’s Day. LSU and Wisconsin last played each other in 2016 at Lambeau Field.
Kickoff will be at noon ET on ESPN2 from Raymond James Stadium.
